Liebster Award!

The lovely Jaime of  Hard Crimson nominated me for the Liebster Award !

Liebster Awards are given to bloggers with less than 200 followers whose blogs are deemed worthy of more recognition.
The rules are: Once nominated you have to answer 11 questions from your nominator, post 11 interesting things about you, write your own 11 questions for future receivers, and nominate 11 more bloggers with under 200 followers!
Onwards! As usual, I write too much. Continue at your own risk:

Jaime's questions

1. What's something you've always wanted to do, but have been afraid to do? This is probably going to seem really silly, but just introduce myself to strangers who seem interesting. I'm so deathly shy with people I don't know. But there have been too many times I see someone wearing something awesome, or listening to a band/reading a book no one I know is interested in, and I want to run over and natter at them for hours.

 2. What's your go-to statement piece? My life has been so topsy-turvy for the past two years that I never seem to have all my stuff at the same time. Currently I don't even have my own clothing with me, and haven't in two months! I'll post about this when I have a go-to once again haha

3. How many languages can you speak, and what are they? Sadly, I can only speak English. I know a bit of French leftover from my immersion days back in SK-second grade. I used to be fluent at that time, but I lost it through lack of use. I'd love to pick it up again. I'd love to learn Hungarian, German, Polish, Spanish, Russian, and Gaelic. It's my goal to pick up at least Hungarian. I'd like to be fluent in two of these before I hit 25.

4. What song are you playing on repeat right now?  I've got The Way You Swing by Invasives on repeat. My buddy introduced them to me last week by email-serenading, "It's the way you swing/ your first kiss made me fall apart/ and my ears still ring/ I hear them lying here in the dark" at me. And if you know me, you know I'm a huge lyric person. So I dropped everything and went back and put the song on repeat and started transcribing the lyrics. I am in love with this song as well as this band now. They're Canadian too! Always love finding some Canuck musicians to adore support! As soon as my internet connection doesn't suck I plan on checking out the rest of their albums too.

5. Do you listen to vinyl/own a record player? Why or why not?  I do, to both! I lucked out and found a working one at my grandparents' house that wasn't being used. I also boosted my vinyl collection from the 3 records I bought last summer (before I owned a player, ha!) to nearly 30! My grandpa didn't want them anymore so I picked through their old collection and kept the ones I wanted. I'll be doing a post on this in the future, as soon as I find a good setup for my newest collection. I just love the sound of music on vinyl. (And The Sound Of Music too!)

6. What's the best present you've ever received? My Canon T2i! My parents bought me my DSLR for Christmas a couple years back, and it's been invaluable to me. It's allowed me to document years of my life, and many many moments in it.  I appreciate it more than I could ever put into words.

7. Do you have any unexpected or random talents?  I thought about this one for awhile, but I can't come up with any unexpected ones. If doing character silly voices or accents counts, then I suppose? But I'm not sure how unexpected that would be if you've ever had a conversation with me- I tend to bust out in them all the time! The most unusual thing I can do is give a thumbs up with and pick up things with my toes, but I wouldn't count that as a talent haha

8. Do you have any tattoos or piercings?  I do! So far I've got thirteen piercings: two on my nostril, four on my right earlobe and five on my left (including my stretched ones: 00g and 0g respectively) as well as two on my  left cartilage. I'm not inked. Yet.

9. If you could live in the universe of any movie or book, which one would you choose? I'd love to live in Terry Pratchett's Discworld. At least the part of Discworld I've been privy to so far, courtesy of  A Hat Full of Sky, The Wee Free Men, and Wintersmith. I've only read these three books (out of around 40!) but I adore the settings, the zaniness, the characters... just everything. And I'd love to live in a universe that has these little buggers:
Mac Feegle Clan by Bruna Brito

10. Share a favorite quote. "Someone once asked me, “Why do you insist on taking the hard road?” I replied, “Why do you assume I see two roads?”"
— Unknown

11. Why did you start blogging? At some point I came across The Dainty Squid and Love Elycia and started reading both fairly regularly. I found myself sucked into the blogosphere, oohing and ahhing over how everyone's homes were decorated, how their personal style looked and how it evolved, the diy tutorials, and overall, just how much fun everyone seemed to be having. I've revisited old posts from my favourite blogs more than once, and I got to thinking: I wish I had my own space. Something as cohesive [as other bloggers] about myself to look back on. Then I thought, instead of wishing, why not start now? I can do this. And so I did.

Whew! If you're still with me you get a round of applause and a batch of cookies.

11 Facts About Me

1. I want to be a window dresser - except that job doesn't really exist anymore. Nowadays it's called "visual merchandiser" and you don't travel between stores doing displays. Boo.

2. I looooove tea. I drink way too much of it. In fact I'm on my second cup of the day as I type this. And I regret nothing.

3. I'm shorter than I'd like to be. I had lofty dreams of reaching 5'9" but I stopped growing an inch and a half short of the mark.

4. I am a theatre nerd. I love musical theatre especially, always have.

5. Working as a telemarketer damaged my vocal chords. Not being able to sing every day for over a year has been heartbreaking for me.

6. I still wish someone had stuck me in ballet when I was younger. Or that I'd continued karate. Hi-ya.

7. I've moved seven times in the past year and a half, and will probably make it eight before I hit the two-year mark.

8. I'm super duper shy at first, but once I'm comfortable with you I don't. Stop. Talking. Seriously.

9. I'd like to write a novel. I've made several starts at it since I was thirteen, but I end up losing motivation a few chapters in.

10. I have a collection of teeth and a collection of insects that I would love to grow (so if you have any you want to send me... ha!)

11. I have had my hair just about every colour of the rainbow, and I used to have a mohawk.  I even had gray hair for a week when I played the grandmother in my high school's musical my final year! I don't have all my photos on my new computer, but here is some proof I dug up:
I'm between 16-18 here, not in order

Okay, okay, time to let someone else talk!

  1. Ahh! Thank you for the nomination, lovely!

I'm totally with you on your answer to the first question. I'm terrified of people I don't know. One of my goals in therapy is actually "get better at making friends." Hooray for anxiety, right? Also, I totally love all of your hair transformations. :3

    1. Thank you! I really miss having fun hair :p

So it's not just me, that's a relief. I was always told "you'll grow out of it" and it's never happened. I can make small talk with people on transit at least now, but only if they approach me first. Baby steps, am I right? ha
